Versatile, dynamic, and facile-of-finger, Molly
Kaufmann sparkles in front of an audience. Molly's connection to her
listeners, her love of entertaining, and her sense of humor, are
right there - front and center.
For over 36 years, Molly has entertained and performed for audiences
in half these United States, Canada, Mexico, and even Australia. She
helped open Denver's acclaimed Boettcher Hall (part of Denver Center
for the Performing Arts) as ragtime soloist on 'jazz night' in 1978.
In 1983, Eubie Blake 's 100th birthday was celebrated by many
well-known artists on the stage of Broadway's Schubert Theatre.
Molly was included in this talented group. She has performed up and
down the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers on the riverboats -
'Mississippi Queen' and the 'Delta Queen'. And for the past 28
years, she has been featured pianist at the 'Diamond Belle Saloon' -
part of Durango, Colorado's lovely and historic Strater Hotel.
Molly's repertoire is extensive and varied; she can play hits from
every decade of the 20th century. Although she is known for her
ebullient ragtime style, boogie-woogie. and blues (both instrumental
and vocal), included in this mix are also lyric ballads, country and
western hits, show tunes, funk, soul, rock, and comedy songs. Her
resume also includes work as music director/accompanist for many
melodramas and musicals, accompanist for solo instruments, vocalists
and choirs, and piano teaching.
She composed her first piece - a lyric and sweet rag called "Windrose"
- in 1980. She is also known for her rollicking boogie/blues
"Payless Shoes Blues" and her latest rag " La Rosa Mystica". "Windrose"
is published and has been recorded.
Seniors all along the Colorado's front range get to hear her perform
on a regular basis. Molly also performs in concerts, festivals,
bars, private parties -and currently she plays in 3 bands. She is
pianist/vocalist in the Jubilee Hot 7 Traditional Jazz band (
formerly the Denver Nighthawks ), pianist and sometimes vocalist in
the Mile High Banjo Society, and the Fat City Mardi Gras Jazz Band.
Her favorite pastimes, besides all of the above, are playing tennis
and spending time with her dog, Jake. |
